1. General

This section covers the requirements for the handling, storage and delivery of materials and equipment:

  • by suppliers and subcontractors
  • during warehouse storage
  • during installation.
2. Suppliers and Subcontractors

Packing, marking, shipping and invoicing instructions shall be an integral part of every purchase order issued by Company.

The degree of packing/protection specified shall be dependent on:

  • sensitivity of materials and equipment
  • methods of transportation
  • expected storage periods.

It shall be the responsibility of the suppliers and sub­contractors to ensure that handling, storage, packing and delivery methods are suitable to prevent damage or deterioration and, if necessary, that any specific, subsequent storage and handling instructions accompany the delivered items.

If a supplier or subcontractor is not in possession of suitable standards to satisfy stringent packing requirements, Company may supply the details to be satisfied (ref.5.1 and 5.2).

If materials and equipment are not contracted by Company to be delivered directly to site, Company’s transportation coordinator shall arrange for the suitable handling and transportation.

3. Warehouse Storage

Warehouse storage and handling of materials, equipment and consum­ables for use in the work shall be organized and controlled to ensure protection and preservation from damage, deterioration, accidents or loss. If appropriate, inspection and/or maintenance schedules for rotating equipment during storage shall be estab­lished.

Suitable conditions shall be maintained for sensitive and explo­sive/inflammable items.

4. Installation

For the erection and installation materials and equipment on site, due consideration shall be paid to transportation, lifting and general handling to prevent damage, deterioration and accidents (ref.5.3).

If appropriate, lifting studies shall be prepared and approved prior to commencing the operation. All lifting equipment shall be certified and operated by qualified/experienced personnel.
